Food on Cruise Ships – What is the big deal?

food on cruise shipsIf you’ve never been on a cruise, you just can’t begin to imagine what a big deal food on cruise ships turns out to be.  From the sheer quantity, to variety, to easy access to more, more, and still more, it’s all there from the moment you board.

They say the average cruiser will gain 8 pounds on a seven night cruise.  That’s a pretty decent sized gain for a week, wouldn’t you say?  Well, what is it about the food on cruise ships that makes this so?

For a preview of all the different kinds of dining venues and some of the types of foods available, see my lens about Food on Cruise Ships.

Food on Cruise Ships – If Like Food, You’ll Love Cruising

Many Passengers Focus on the Food on Cruise Ships

To say there’s a lot of food on cruise ships is an understatement.  Depending the size of your ship, and the cruse line, you’ll foat  the main dining room (at least one), the buffet, alternative restaurants, snack bars, ice cream stands, casual lunch spots, pastry counters, and even strolling waiters with trays of hors d’oeuvres.  And then, thre’s room service, too.

It’s no wonder that, when a non-cruiser askes a cruiser what it’s like to take a cruise, one of the things mentioned is inevitably the food on cruise ships.  And, it usually gets more than just a mention.

It’s safe to say that, for many passengers, food on cruise ships is honestly a focal point.  M husband and I have truly been fortunate, in that we have been on our share of cruises.  And I can honestly say that, for him, anyway, the food is one of his ghreated pleasures when he is on board a ship.   He takes full advantage of the opportunityes to sample ldirrerent things, and especially enjoys the wonderful sugar-free deserts.

Me, not so much.  I’be even been known to skip a meal or two during a week long cruise just as I would do during a week at home.  I just don’t share his fascination with food and eating.  I’m just eager to get away from home, smell the sea air, and plunge in to the ruisay waters of the Caribbean for a swim or  a little snorkeling.

And, that, for me, is one of the beauties of cruising.  There’s something for everyone – foodies and non-foodies included.  And everyone is free to enjoy their time on board in exactly the way they want.

I sure am looking forward to our next week at sea!

Are You Afraid of Getting Seasick on a Cruise?

About Getting Seasick on a Cruise

Have you ever hesitated to book taking one of those wonderful sounding cruise vacations  because you were worried getting seasick on a cruise?  Well, perhaps you should think again!

Here’s some good news for you:  A lot of the people who finally take the plunge, and board a cruise ship inspite of their misgivings about betting seasick on a cruise never even experience the slightest queesiness.

Why do you suppose that is?  It may be because sailing on todays larger cruise ships is a lot smoother than they had imagined it might be.  Or, it may be because they did their homework first.

WHAT?  Homework before a cruise, you say?  Yep.  But it’s easy stuff.  It’s just a matter of doing a little research on the internet, and a little asking around among those in the know about cruises.

For example if it’s the motion of the ocean that concerns you, you might start by reading About Getting Seasick on a Cruise, which will explain the following to you:

  • Why large cruise ships are more stable than you might think
  • Which times of the year the seas are likely to be calmer
  • Which cruise itineraries sail in calmer seas
  • What steps you can take if you feel you might be getting seasick
  • Some of the common remedies used by experienced cruisers and sailors

After reading this lens, you’ll see that it’s not an automatic given that everyone who sails also gets seasick.  Some people are more suseptible than others, however… like those who are prone to motion sickness in cars, planes, and trains.  You know who you are.  And you know what works for you.  Even if you are in that group, you should probably pay a visit to this page about sea-sickness.

And if you’re not suseptible, you’ll find some good information so that you can advise your friends and shipmates!

Cruise Ship Swimming Pools

Cruise Ship Swimming Pools

Did you ever wonder about what it would be like to go swimming in a pool on a cruise ship while the ship is sailing the wide blue ocean?  Do you know that the pools on cruise ships are routinely emptied and refilled while the ship is at sea or in port?

Cruise ship swimming pools and the lido decks they are found on are fine places to pass some time while your ship sails from one port to another.  But, what if the seas should become rough?

Find out about all of these things at my lens about the different kinds of pools and other types of water related ways to entertain yourself aboard today’s mega ships.

BONUS – a fascinating video showing water in the pool going crazy when it is tossed about as the ship sails through some high seas.  You must see this video, featuring actual breaking waves in a normally placid pool!

Love Boat Starring Pacific Princess and Island Princess

Love Boat Starring Pacific Princess and Island Princess

Did you ever wonder what it might have been like to cruise aboard the real Love Boat that you saw on TV?

While a great deal of the filming was done in studio, there was also a fair amount that was actually filmed on a cruise ship – during an actual cruise!  And the ship most often used for filming at sea was Pacific Princess, though Island Princess was used a number of times, as well.

What might it have been like to be a passenger aboard the Pacific Princess or Island Princess cruise ship when the cast of the Love Boat was busy filming on deck?  And what were these ships actually like?  You can find out all about Love Boat Starring Pacific Princess and Island Princess if you would like!

I have some special photos to share, and they are from someone who cruised on Island Princess while filming was taking place.  You really must see these photos to believe them!  Just visit Love Boat Starring Pacific Princess and Island Princess

It would end up bringing a smile to your face.
