Every Squidoo lens will have a chance to shine, even if it’s not in the first weeks, months or even the first year after it has been first published.
A good case in point is Famous People From Bournemouth which has always ranked highly on Google, but which has not had a huge amount of traffic since this is not a really popular topic.
Over the last weekend suddenly the number of visits shot up by around 600 instead of the usual 50 a week, and on investigation this was because of a lot of Google searches for a woman called “Melita Norwood”, who was a spy with the codename “Hola”, and who was born in Bournemouth. It seems that something must have triggered a lot of searches for her, and my lens showed up even though I only have a small section for her on it.
You just never know what is going to be a popular search, and sometimes the most unlikely topics could result in your lenses generating a lot of traffic.
So far I have no idea why this woman caused a lot of searching, whether it was a news item for example, but it’s a good example of why you should never give up hope of lenses being successful in Squidoo.
This one was ranked about 40,000 last week, now it’s in the 2nd tier. With luck and a bit of tweaking it might stay there too.
This weekend looks like it could break records for sunshine and temperatures, and what better to do on a lovely sunny Spring weekend than take a trip to the seaside.
While the water might still be a bit chilly for most, the sun at this time of the year can still be nice enough for some early sunbathing, and it’s a great opportunity to get out and see the Spring flowers and blossoms.
Bournemouth is a wonderful place to visit in the Spring time, when the blossoms are all out on the trees in the Chines, and the Spring flowers are blooming in the Lower Gardens that lead from Bournemouth Square down the the pier.
Why come to Bournemouth for just a day though! There is so much to do in the Bournemouth area, so spend the weekend – or longer! There are plenty of Bournemouth Hotels and Accomodation to choose from, so come visit this pretty area of Dorset and don’t forget your camera.
Three famous names from the past 50 years, but what is the connection between them?
J.R.R. Tolkein as everyone knows was the author of The Hobbit and Lord Of The Rings. Max Bygraves will be familiar to most people in the UK as a singer and entertainer, and one time host of the game show Family Fortunes. Mantovani was a world famous band leader of The Mantovani Orchestra, and the first person to sell One Million Stereophonic LP’s.
But what’s the connection?
They all lived for some years in my home town of Bournemouth, and I added them this week to my lens about Famous People From Bournemouth, which is getting massive.
This is a great way to learn more about this historic seaside town on the south coast of England, and the famous people that were born there or who lived there, so please drop by when you have time, and please leave a comment to let me know you were there.
Over 2,000 people who have attended stag and hen parties around the UK were interviewed, and the favourite destination for hen and stag parties is now Bournemouth, according to the Bournemouth Daily Echo.
Who would have believed that this once tranquil Victorian spa town on the south coast of England could have turned into a party capital in just a few years.
It wasn’t too long ago that Bournemouth was well known just for it’s miles of golden sandy beaches, well that and having one of the largest proportions of elderly people in the UK, since many people moved there to retire.
Then came the foreign language schools in the 1960’s, and in the last few years the town has seen a number of nightclubs and bars opening, catering to the younger party crowd who want to have a good time and party like celebrities.
The recent trend of turning a stag and hen night from just a local night out to a long weekend getaway has resulted in Bournemouth being the top destination in the UK, beating rival cities that include Brighton, Newcastle and Liverpool.
So why is this I wonder? Bournemouth does have some excellent nightclubs of course, that is the number one criteria for a stag and hen night location, but the local area also offers some other opportunities for those who are looking for more than just a crazy night out in a club. There is the beach and watersports of course, horse riding or bike riding in the New Forest, paragliding and other daredevil activities, and numerous places to explore.
If you don’t know much about this fun seaside town on the south coast, it’s time take a look at what you can do in Bournemouth. If you are looking to visit the UK from overseas, don’t miss this golden opportunity to visit part of the UK that is rising up the list of places for overseas tourists to visit.
While most Americans have probably never heard of the Victorian seaside town of Bournemouth, which is on the south coast of England, they just might be surprised at some of the connections that this beautiful place with it’s golden sandy beaches has with some people that they do know.
Have you heard of Jayne Atkinson? If not, are you familiar with Karen Hayes from the television drama 24? Jayne plays the part of Karen Hayes, and has also appeared in a number of other television shows and movies, but before her family moved to Hollywood in Florida, she was actually born in Bournemouth.
Now hands up anyone from the USA who hasn’t heard of the name John Wilkes Booth? I thought so, not a lot of hands going up in the air there. As we know from the history books, John Wilkes Booth is the man who shot President Abraham Lincoln. After the assassination of Lincoln, the family was disgraced, and crossed the Atlantic, settling in Bournemouth of all places.
Actor Charles Gray you also might not have heard of, but I am sure you know the villain Blofeld from the James Bond movies. One and the same person of course. Charles was born in Bournemouth, and actually went to school with Benny Hill, someone else I am sure you have heard of.
So have I tweaked your curiosity? There are many other famous people who have a connection with Bournemouth, and believe it or not I struggled to fit them all into a single lens on Squidoo. I hope you will come pay a visit, the lens is Famous People From Bournemouth.
